West Gate Freeway Accident Today - Major delays on West Gate Freeway with three out of four outbound lanes closed

A significant collision involving a truck and motorbike has caused major disruptions on Melbourne's West Gate Freeway.

The accident, which occurred in Spotswood on Thursday at 4:25 pm, prompted the closure of three outbound lanes, leading to delays of up to three hours for westbound drivers.

Ambulance Victoria confirmed that paramedics transported one individual to the Royal Melbourne Hospital, though further details about their condition remain unknown. Emergency crews are on-site managing the incident, which Transport Victoria has described as a "protracted" situation.

Chris Miller from Transport Victoria has advised motorists to avoid the freeway altogether, recommending alternate routes. "Footscray Road to Geelong Road is a viable option, and Millers Road can help you rejoin the West Gate Freeway," Miller suggested.

As emergency responders work to clear the crash site, commuters are urged to remain patient and consider alternative modes of transport if feasible. The incident has highlighted the importance of road safety and the ripple effect that major collisions can have on city-wide traffic flow.

Authorities will continue to provide updates as the situation unfolds, and drivers are encouraged to stay informed through live traffic updates and alerts.
