Saramae Radel, a shining talent in the world of field hockey, passed away following an accident, leaving the sports community mourning the loss of a remarkable athlete. 

Born and raised in Selinsgrove, PA, Saramae’s love for field hockey began early, evolving into an illustrious career characterized by dedication and excellence.




At Selinsgrove High School, Saramae established herself as a formidable force on the field. As a senior team captain, she earned accolades such as 1st Team All-State and All-PHAC in 2018, and 2nd Team honors the year prior. 

Her performance was a blend of defensive tenacity and offensive precision, with 13 career goals and 10 assists, complemented by her three defensive saves in her senior year.

Continuing her journey at Mansfield University, Saramae made an immediate impact as a freshman. Her collegiate career was filled with standout moments:

  • 2019 Season: A starting player in all 19 games, Saramae tallied two goals and four assists, contributing significantly to her team's success. Her performance earned her the PSAC Scholar-Athlete title.
  • 2021 Season: Saramae's exceptional play as a midfielder garnered her PSAC All-Conference third-team honors. Her equalizer and game-winning goals in critical matches exemplified her clutch performance ability.
  • 2022 Season: She recorded a season-high two goals in a standout performance against Maryville, further solidifying her role as a key player.
  • 2023 Season: Saramae started all 19 games, scoring three goals, including two in a single game against Saint Michael's.
Saramae's athletic achievements were complemented by her academic excellence. As a business administration major, she excelled in her studies, earning recognition on the Dean's List and showcasing her commitment to personal growth.

Her tragic passing is a profound loss to the Mansfield and Selinsgrove communities. Saramae's legacy as a gifted athlete and inspiring individual will be cherished by all who knew her.
