The annual Merritt Island Christmas Boat Parade, a much-loved holiday tradition, turned tragic Saturday night when a two-boat collision resulted in the death of local resident Cameron Michaels. 

The accident, which occurred at 8:38 p.m. along Sykes Creek Drive, has left the community devastated and calling for answers. Witnesses recount that the incident unfolded when a Corvette-style boat, traveling at high speed, crashed into another vessel in the canal. 




Emergency responders from Brevard County Fire Rescue quickly arrived on the scene following reports of multiple victims and a missing person, which were later clarified. While another individual sustained minor injuries, Cameron’s injuries proved fatal.

Cameron’s passing has left an indelible mark on Merritt Island. As someone deeply involved in community life, he was widely known for his joyful spirit and active participation in local events. 

His love for boating and the outdoors made the Christmas Boat Parade a special occasion for him, and his presence will be profoundly missed in future celebrations.
