The death of tech professional Atul Subhash in Bengaluru has raised troubling questions about the pressures faced by individuals in protracted marital conflicts.
His 24-page suicide note, emailed to multiple contacts and shared with an NGO, detailed allegations of harassment by his estranged wife and her family.
According to the note, Atul’s wife, who was employed, received ₹40,000 monthly maintenance but allegedly demanded ₹2-4 lakhs more.
The ongoing legal disputes, including a case filed by his wife in Uttar Pradesh, reportedly culminated in a court ruling against him, which exacerbated his distress.
Atul meticulously prepared for his death, leaving his vehicle keys, a list of completed and pending tasks, and a placard reading, “Justice is due.”
The case has drawn significant attention to the challenges of navigating legal and financial responsibilities in estranged relationships. An FIR has been filed against his wife and her relatives following a complaint by Atul’s brother.
